The meaning of Harmon
Being a lifelong Michigan fan, I had always heard of Tom Harmon but it wasn't until I got to college that I thought it would make a really cool name for a son. So, while Harmon isn't necessarily NAMED after Tom Harmon, he is the genesis of the name. Living in Michigan, most people recognize Harmon's name and associate it with Tom Harmon. However, when we were in Minnesota in July and I called out Harmon's name in the airport, it struck me that it has a bit of a different meaning THERE. I'm sure when people heard the name, they assumed I was a huge Twins fan (hell to the no) and obviously named my son after Hall of Famer Harmon Killebrew. This was really the first time I had considered Harmon's name had a different meaning and, honestly, it was a little weird!
